Badachu in the Western Hills
About 20km (12 miles) south of the Fragrant Hills (xiangshan) is Badachu or Eight Great Sites. Eight former temples and monasteries lie on the slope of a hill and visitors can stroll from one temple to another and enjoy the beautiful scenery amid old pine, cypress, willow and gingko trees. In the pagoda of the second temple, the Temple of the Sacred Light, is a holy relic reputed to be a tooth of the Buddha. A recent addition to the area which provides quite a contrast to the traditional sites is the amusement ride known as Landsled. Visitors can pay to ride down aluminum tubes carved into the side of the mountain.
